ISA Nagpur City Branch Organizes COLS Training at Martorao Mule High School
Introduction
The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA), Nagpur City Branch conducted a COLS (Compression Only Life Support) awareness and training program at Martorao Mule High School, Nagpur, as part of its ongoing commitment to community education and emergency preparedness.
The initiative aimed to educate young students about basic life-saving techniques and empower them with the knowledge required to respond effectively during medical emergencies such as sudden cardiac arrest.
Participation and Audience
The activity witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members of the school.
Participants Included
- 100 students from 8th to 10th standard
- 5 school teachers
- Medical professionals from ISA Nagpur City Branch
The program was designed to introduce school students to the concept of Compression Only Life Support (COLS) and highlight the importance of timely intervention during cardiac emergencies.

These members actively participated in hands-on demonstrations and practical training sessions, guiding students through the correct techniques involved in performing COLS.
Hands-On Training Session
The workshop included practical training where students were taught how to respond in case of cardiac emergencies using Compression Only Life Support techniques.
Participants learned:
- Recognition of cardiac arrest
- Importance of early intervention
- Correct chest compression technique
- Maintaining rhythm and pressure during compressions
- Immediate steps to help save a life before medical help arrives
Both students and teachers actively participated in the training, making the session interactive and highly educational.
Academic Activity by Medical Students
An additional educational component was conducted by 3rd-year MBBS students from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur.
They carried out:
- Pre-training questionnaires to assess students’ awareness about COLS
- Post-training questionnaires to evaluate the effectiveness of the training program
This approach helped measure the impact of the awareness activity and improved understanding of emergency response among school students.
