On 08 July 2025, the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists – Nagpur City Branch (ISA NCB) successfully conducted a structured COLS & BCLS Training Program along with a First Responder Lecture at Central Provinces Club (CP Club), Nagpur.
The initiative aimed to strengthen emergency preparedness and equip non-medical personnel with essential life-saving skills, particularly in community and sports settings.
The workshop witnessed active participation from 40 coaches and trainers representing badminton, gymnastics, indoor games, swimming pool, and health club facilities of CP Club. The session was designed to combine scientific knowledge, live demonstrations, and hands-on skill development to ensure effective learning and practical confidence.
Leadership and Faculty
First Aid and Emergency Response Session
The program commenced with an insightful lecture on First Aid and Emergency Response delivered by:

Dr. Ramtani emphasized:
- Early recognition of cardiac arrest
- Importance of immediate response
- Role of trained first responders in improving survival rates

The session was interactive, practical, and tailored to non-medical participants working in physically active environments such as sports facilities.
COLS & BCLS Lecture-Cum-Demonstration
The technical session on Cardiac Life Support (COLS) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) was conducted by:

The session included:
- Recognition of cardiac arrest
- High-quality CPR techniques
- Airway management basics
- Stepwise COLS protocol
- Importance of timely defibrillation
Participants received structured, guideline-based training aligned with standard life support protocols.
Hands-On Practical Training
A key highlight of the workshop was the hands-on CPR training conducted in small batches using mannequins.
This practical approach ensured that every participant:
- Practiced chest compressions correctly
- Understood compression depth and rate
- Learned proper hand positioning
- Gained confidence in performing CPR independently
Skill-based training significantly enhances retention and improves response effectiveness during real-life emergencies.
SAFE HANDS Initiative – Public Awareness Campaign
The workshop was conducted under ISA NCB’s public awareness mission:
“SAFE HANDS – Know Your Anaesthesiologists”
As part of this initiative, participants were provided with an Anaesthesia Informative Handbook, which included:
- Types of anaesthesia
- Myths and facts about anaesthesia
- Safety protocols
- Role of anaesthesiologists in perioperative and critical care
- Information about ISA and its community outreach efforts
The objective was to bridge the knowledge gap between medical professionals and the general public and enhance awareness about the specialty of anaesthesiology.
Dr. Umesh Ramtani addressed participant queries during an interactive Q&A session, clarifying doubts related to CPR, emergency care, and anaesthesia practices.
