On 06 July 2025, the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists – Nagpur City Branch (ISA NCB) conducted a large-scale Cardiac Life Support (COLS) Training Program at Mankapur Indoor National Sports Stadium, Nagpur.

The initiative aimed to strengthen emergency response readiness in sports environments by equipping athletes, coaches, and community members with essential life-saving skills.

The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from 100 individuals across various age groups, including badminton players, gymnasts, indoor sports participants, and coaches from multiple sports clubs.

Leadership and Academic Session

Lecture-Cum-Demonstration by ISA NCB President

The training session was led by:

Dr. Ramtani delivered a structured lecture-cum-demonstration on Cardiac Life Support (COLS), focusing on:

  • Early identification of cardiac arrest
  • Importance of immediate high-quality CPR
  • Airway support fundamentals
  • Stepwise response protocol
  • Critical role of bystander intervention

The session emphasized the importance of rapid response in sports settings, where sudden cardiac events and injuries require immediate attention.

Hands-On CPR Skill Development

A major highlight of the workshop was the batch-wise hands-on training using mannequins, ensuring practical skill acquisition.

Participants were trained in:

  • Correct chest compression technique
  • Compression depth and rate
  • Proper hand positioning
  • Effective coordination during resuscitation

The hands-on format enhanced confidence and ensured that participants could translate knowledge into real-world action during emergencies.

Emergency Preparedness in Sports Facilities

  • Availability of emergency airway equipment
  • Presence of first aid consumables
  • Standardized emergency protocols in sports arenas

Donation of Emergency Sports Injury Kit

In a significant gesture toward strengthening on-ground preparedness, an Emergency Sports Injury Kit was donated to the club’s coach.

The kit included:

  • First aid medical consumables
  • Essential emergency response supplies

As part of this initiative, participants received an Anaesthesia Informative Handbook, covering:

  • Types of anaesthesia
  • Myths and facts about anaesthesia
  • Role of anaesthesiologists in perioperative and critical care
  • Patient safety protocols
  • Overview of ISA and its community outreach activities

The objective was to create awareness among the general public about the specialty of anaesthesiology and its critical role in patient safety.
