In any public emergency, journalists and cameramen are often among the first to arrive on the scene. Recognizing this unique position, the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA), Nagpur City Branch, took a proactive step to empower the city’s media professionals with life-saving skills.
On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, our team conducted a vital Compression-Only Life Support (COLS) demonstration at the Press Club (Patrakar Bhavan) at 4:30 PM.
The session was designed to be both informative and practical.
- Dr. Sonali Bhagat, the Hon. Treasurer of ISA-NCB, began the workshop by explaining the critical importance of COLS. She clearly outlined the simple, effective steps a bystander can take in the first few minutes of a sudden cardiac arrest—a window where action can mean the difference between life and death.
- Following the introduction, Dr. Umesh Ramtani (President, ISA-NCB) and Dr. Anjali Borkar (Hon. Secretary, ISA-NCB) provided a hands-on demonstration. They showcased the correct technique for chest compressions, emphasizing the proper rhythm and depth required to maintain blood flow until medical help arrives.
We were thrilled by the response. About 50 journalists and cameramen from various media houses enthusiastically participated in the activity. They not only practiced the techniques but also engaged in a lively Q&A session. The participants had many thoughtful queries, all of which were answered in detail by our team.
By training the media, we not only equip them as individuals but also help spread accurate, life-saving information to the entire community. ISA Nagpur City Branch is proud to collaborate with the Press Club and remains committed to its mission of promoting public safety and health awareness.
