
ISA Nagpur Welcomes New Leadership: Dr. Umesh Ramtani Installed as President for 2024-25
The J R Shaw Auditorium at IMA House witnessed a grand installation ceremony on December 7, 2024, as Dr. Umesh Ramtani took charge as the new President of the ISA Nagpur City Branch. The evening was a celebration of the past team's "exemplary" achievements, which earned a standing ovation, and a powerful look forward to the new team's vision, "Anaesthesia care; expanding horizons." The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. J Balavenkata Subramanian, President of ISA National and Secretary of the WFSA.
A New Chapter for ISA Nagpur
The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA), Nagpur City Branch, formally inducted its new leadership for the 2024-25 tenure in an illustrious ceremony on December 7, 2024. Held at the J R Shaw Auditorium, IMA House, the event was a convergence of the fraternity’s past, present, and future.
The ceremony, expertly guided by Masters of Ceremony Dr. Amrusha Raipure and Dr. Sheetal Samel, commenced with the traditional lighting of the samai and a welcome to the esteemed dignitaries on the dais.
A Standing Ovation for Team 2023-24
The outgoing President, Dr. Gauri Arora, delivered an emotional welcome address, expressing deep appreciation for her team and the special bond they formed. She extended her gratitude to senior members and GC members for their unwavering support.
Dr. Dilip Wasnik, the outgoing Secretary, presented a systematic and comprehensive report of the past year. He meticulously detailed every academic, non-academic, cultural, social, and COLS activity, giving special mention to all award winners, MOCS, and event coordinators. For their exemplary performance and countless achievements, the outgoing team received a heartfelt standing ovation from all attendees and dignitaries.
Installation of the New Team
The central event of the evening was the formal installation of Dr. Umesh Ramtani as President, marked by the exchange of batches and the ceremonial handing over of the ISA flag.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Ramtani congratulated the previous team for their outstanding performance at the state and national levels. He assured the members that he and his new team would work with equal dedication to meet the high standards and expectations.
Dr. Ramtani then unveiled his vision for the tenure:
- Theme: “Anaesthesia care; expanding horizons”
- Missions: “Safe hands; know your Anaesthesiologist” and “Mission M2 for mental well-being of Medicos.”
The new executive body for 2024-25 was installed:

- Hon. Secretary: Dr. Anjali Modak Borkar
- President-elect: Dr. Sachin Makade
- Treasurer: Dr. Sonali Bhagat
- Immediate Past President: Dr. Gauri Arora
- Immediate Past Secretary: Dr. Dilip Wasnik
- Joint Secretary: Dr. Vrishali Ankalwar
- Special Executive: Dr. Kiran Vyawahare
- Executive Members: Dr. Kirti Gujarkar, Dr. Bhuvaneshwari, Dr. Rupali Shendre, Dr. Roshani Manwani, Dr. Shweta Bulle, Dr. Pallavi Meshram, Dr. Anant Atkar, and Dr. Arihant Jain.
The team will be guided by a distinguished board of mentors, including Dr. C. S. Cham, Dr. Barde, Dr. Sheetal Dalal, Dr. Manisha Shembekar, and Dr. Anjali Bhure.
New Initiatives & An Inspiring Address
The new team’s work is already underway, with the new body releasing several key resources at the hands of the chief guest:
- eSense: The e-newsletter of ISA NCB, compiled by editors Dr. Heena Pahuja and Dr. Ketaki Ramteke.
- Informative Videos for public awareness.
- A Handbook on Anaesthesia for the general public.
In a touching gesture, the parents and family members of Dr. Umesh Ramtani and Dr. Anjali Borkar were felicitated by the chief guest.
Honourable Chief Guest Dr. J. Balavenkata Subramanian, President of ISA National and Secretary of the WFSA, delivered a deeply inspiring speech. He congratulated the outgoing team, noting that the sheer volume of their activities seemed like “a decade’s work” compressed into one year.
He offered key suggestions for the new team:
- Mentorship: That ISA Nagpur should mentor a smaller branch.
- Training: To provide USG training to all 650 members for enhanced patient care.
- Documentation: To document important cases in private setups and meticulously follow the WHO checklist.
Dr. Subramanian also motivated members by inviting them to the World Anaesthesia Congress in Morocco in 2026.
Conclusion
The illustrious ceremony was attended by senior members, patrons, past presidents of ISA NCB, and office bearers from IMA and other medical and non-medical organizations, all of whom greeted the new team.
The evening concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by the new Hon. Secretary, Dr. Anjali Modak Borkar, followed by the National Anthem.
