ISA Nagpur City Branch celebrates World Anaesthesia Day

Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists – Nagpur City Branch celebrated World Anaesthesia Day on 16th October 2014. First successful demonstration of ether as an anaesthetic for surgery was performed on 16th October 1846 by W.T.G. Mortan at MGH, Boston. From that day, surgery has become painless and this event paved the way for today’s safe modern anaesthesia practices.
In the morning, blood donation program was organized at Govt Medical College, Nagpur and post-graduate students in anaesthesiology participated in blood donation. In the afternoon, Public Awareness Program was organized at Bus stand, Ganeshpeth in the form of skit, oath taking and basic life support training on mannequin. Large number of bus drivers, conductors and passengers participated in the activity. Dr Naresh Tirpude, Professor & Head, Dept of Anaesthesiology, GMC Nagpur with his team, Dr Narendra Tamhane and Dr Saurabh Barde – President & Secretary of ISA Nagpur city branch trained the gathering. As a part of public awareness and responsibility towards society, ISA Nagpur city branch members regularly organize such training programs at various places all throughout the year.
A grand cultural activity was organized for ISA NCB members and their families and friends in the evening at J.R. Shaw auditorium of IMA House. Honorable Justice Mrs Vasanti Naik was Chief Guest for the occasion. President Dr Tamhane welcomed all. The young achievers in the various academic and non-academic fields from families of members were felicitated. This was followed by fashion show and musical orchestra. All the participants were ISA NCB member anaesthesiologists. Past presidents of the society were also invited to be part of fashion show and were felicitated. Dr Archana Munishwar, Dr Arti S Kelkar and Dr Arti A Kelkar conducted the program. Dr Gauri Arora was program incharge. Honorary Secretary Dr Saurabh Barde proposed vote of thanks. Program ended with national anthem.
