ISANCB Conducts COLS Training at Nelson Hospital During World Anaesthesia Day Week Celebration

October 19, 2026

The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Nagpur City Branch (ISANCB), conducted a Compression-Only Life Support (COLS) awareness and training programme at Nelson Hospital, Dhantoli, Nagpur, on 16 October 2026, as part of the World Anaesthesia Day Week celebrations.

The programme aimed to raise awareness about essential life-saving skills and highlight the importance of early recognition of cardiac arrest and prompt action during medical emergencies.

Approximately 40 hospital staff members and 50 patients and their relatives participated in the activity. An interactive questionnaire session encouraged participants to engage with the topic, assess their understanding of life-saving skills, and ask questions about responding to emergencies.

The session was conducted by Dr Poonam Shekhawat, Executive Member, ISANCB (2026–27), along with Dr Ela Kulkarni and their Resident Medical Officers (RMOs).

The programme included practical demonstrations and hands-on chest compression training, allowing participants to gain practical exposure to basic life-saving techniques. The interactive approach helped reinforce the importance of knowing how to respond quickly when someone experiences a cardiac emergency.

Through this initiative, ISANCB continued its efforts to extend life-saving awareness to healthcare workers, patients, and their families. The activity highlighted the value of community participation and practical training in building awareness about emergency response.

The programme reaffirmed ISANCB’s commitment to promoting life-saving education and encouraging timely intervention during cardiac emergencies.
