October 21, 2026

The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Nagpur City Branch (ISA NCB), celebrated World Anaesthesia Day on 16 October 2026 with an event highlighting academic excellence, professional achievements, member well-being and community outreach.

The programme was graced by Dr Prashant P. Joshi, Executive Director, AIIMS Nagpur, as Chief Guest. The distinguished gathering also included Dr Chandrashekharan Cham, GC Member, ISA National; Dr Shital Dalal, Secretary, SAMS Maharashtra State; Dr Saurabh Barde, President-Elect, SAMS; Dr Rashmi Shingade, GC, SAMS; and Dr Kiran Vyavahare, GC, SAMS.

Anaesthesiologists from Nagpur and surrounding areas attended the celebration, including senior members and founding members of ISA Nagpur City Branch, Dr Hema Mankeshwar, former Dean, GMCH Nagpur, and Dr Subhash Shrirao, along with other senior members of the branch.

Presidential Address and Vision for 2026–27

In his presidential address, Dr Deepak Madankar, President, ISA Nagpur City Branch (2026–27), welcomed the gathering and outlined the branch’s vision for the coming year. He announced three flagship initiatives designed to strengthen academic learning, member wellness and institutional knowledge.

1. Nagpur Regional Anaesthesia Club (NRAC)

The Nagpur Regional Anaesthesia Club (NRAC) will serve as a learning and knowledge-sharing platform for professionals interested in regional anaesthesia. It aims to encourage the exchange of expertise and practical knowledge, particularly in ultrasound-guided and peripheral nerve stimulator-guided nerve blocks.

2. My Health, My Priority

The “My Health, My Priority” initiative focuses on the health and well-being of ISA NCB members. Planned activities include personalised birthday calls and health reminders, encouraging members to give due attention to their own health while continuing their professional responsibilities.

3. Know Your ISA NCB

The “Know Your ISA NCB” initiative aims to document and preserve the branch’s institutional history, constitution, office bearers, awards, achievements and milestones. The initiative is designed to strengthen awareness of the branch’s legacy and provide a valuable knowledge resource for current and future members.

A quiz competition was also organised as part of the programme, encouraging participation and engagement among attendees.

Academic Excellence and Community Outreach

Dr Madankar outlined plans for a year of regular academic and non-academic activities. These include monthly webinars, offline Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes, paper and poster presentations, case presentations and quiz competitions.

The branch also plans to strengthen community outreach and public awareness initiatives, extending its efforts beyond the operating theatre to promote health education and life-saving awareness among the wider public.

Guided by the theme “Inclusive Excellence: Ahead Together,” ISA Nagpur City Branch aims to foster academic growth, member well-being, professional fraternity and meaningful community engagement.

Its mission, “Caring Beyond OT: Serving Society, Healing Humanity,” reflects the branch’s commitment to combining excellence in anaesthesia practice with service to society.

Felicitation Ceremony and e-Sense Magazine Release

A special highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of ISA NCB members and their children for their achievements. The recognition celebrated accomplishments within the professional community and among members’ families.

The programme also marked the release of e-Sense, the branch magazine, which serves as a platform to share academic content, branch activities, achievements and professional contributions.

Dr Priya Sadawarte served as Editor, with Dr Monika Sanghvi as Co-Editor. The magazine release represented another step in documenting and sharing the activities and accomplishments of ISA Nagpur City Branch.

Programme Coordination and Vote of Thanks

The programme was coordinated by Dr Daksha Mandhaniya, while Dr Arihant Jain and Dr Ayushma Jejani Padia served as Masters of Ceremony, guiding the proceedings.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Leena Ingale Gedam, acknowledging the dignitaries, senior members, organisers and attendees who contributed to the celebration.

Moving Ahead Together

The World Anaesthesia Day celebration marked an important occasion for ISA Nagpur City Branch to recognise achievements, honour its members, share knowledge and introduce initiatives for the 2026–27 tenure.

With a focus on academic development, member wellness, institutional documentation and public engagement, the branch reaffirmed its commitment to advancing anaesthesiology while serving the wider community.

Through its theme, “Inclusive Excellence: Ahead Together,” and mission, “Caring Beyond OT: Serving Society, Healing Humanity,” ISA Nagpur City Branch looks forward to a year of collaboration, learning and meaningful service.
