On the occasion of World Anaesthesia Day 2026, the Department of Anaesthesiology at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC), Nagpur, organised a special exhibition titled “Awake to Anaesthesia: A Journey Through Time” on 15 October 2026.

The exhibition was organised in collaboration with SAMS and the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Nagpur City Branch (ISA NCB). It aimed to showcase the evolution of anaesthesia, highlight advances in modern anaesthesia practice, and create awareness about the vital role of anaesthesiologists in patient safety.

A Journey from Ether to Modern Anaesthesia

The exhibition presented a journey through the history of anaesthesia, from the early use of ether to contemporary anaesthesia equipment, monitoring systems, and modern clinical practices.

Through historical displays and visual demonstrations, visitors had the opportunity to explore how anaesthesia has evolved over time and how technological progress has contributed to safer surgical care.

The exhibition also highlighted the role of anaesthesiologists in monitoring patients, supporting surgical teams, managing pain, and ensuring patient well-being throughout the perioperative period.

Promoting Awareness and Medical Education

The exhibition provided an educational platform for visitors to learn about the science and history of anaesthesia. By bringing together historical perspectives and modern clinical technology, the initiative aimed to improve understanding of anaesthesia and its importance in healthcare.

The event also reflected the commitment of the organising institutions to medical education, professional collaboration, and public awareness.
