ISA Nagpur City Branch Introduces the Five Life-Saving Skills of Pancharakshak

October 22, 2026

The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Nagpur City Branch (ISA NCB) is promoting awareness of essential life-saving skills through its ISA Pancharakshak initiative for the 2026–27 term.

Pancharakshak highlights five important emergency-response skills that can help people provide timely assistance during medical emergencies. The initiative reflects the branch’s commitment to public education, emergency preparedness, and spreading life-saving knowledge beyond the hospital environment.

The Five Life-Saving Skills of Pancharakshak

The Pancharakshak awareness flyer highlights five key skills:

  1. Compression-Only Life Support (COLS/CPR): Understanding the importance of prompt chest compressions when a person experiences sudden cardiac arrest.
  2. Leg Raise: Learning when and how leg positioning may be used as an initial supportive measure in appropriate emergency situations.
  3. Recovery Position: Understanding how to position an unresponsive person who is breathing normally while awaiting emergency assistance.
  4. Abdominal Thrusts: Learning an appropriate first-aid response for a person experiencing severe choking.
  5. Emergency Kit: Recognising the value of having essential emergency supplies readily available.

These skills help introduce the public to basic emergency response. Practical training and guidance from qualified professionals are important to ensure that techniques are performed safely and appropriately.

Building a More Prepared Community

Medical emergencies can occur at home, in public places, at workplaces, or in educational institutions. Basic knowledge of emergency response can help bystanders recognise a crisis, call for professional assistance, and provide appropriate first aid while help is on the way.

Through Pancharakshak, ISA Nagpur City Branch aims to make life-saving knowledge more accessible and encourage people to take an active interest in emergency preparedness.

ISA Nagpur City Branch 2026–27

The initiative is presented under the leadership of Dr Deepak Madankar, President, ISA Nagpur City Branch 2026–27, and Dr Leena Ingale Gedam, Honorary Secretary, ISA Nagpur City Branch 2026–27.

Guided by the theme “Inclusive Excellence: Ahead Together,” the branch is committed to promoting education, professional collaboration, and public awareness.

Its mission, “Caring Beyond OT: Serving Society, Healing Humanity,” reflects the belief that the contribution of anaesthesiologists extends beyond the operating theatre into community health education and emergency preparedness.

Spreading Life-Saving Awareness

Through the ISA Pancharakshak initiative, ISA Nagpur City Branch encourages wider awareness of basic life-saving skills and the importance of timely action during emergencies.

By supporting education and practical demonstrations, the branch aims to help build a more informed and prepared community where more people understand how to seek help and respond appropriately when every second matters.
