ISA Nagpur Conducts COLS Training at AIIMS Nagpur Residential Quarters

October 22, 2026

The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA), Nagpur City Branch, conducted a Compression-Only Life Support (COLS) awareness and training programme at the AIIMS Nagpur Residential Quarters on 19 October 2026 as part of the World Anaesthesia Day Week celebrations.

The initiative aimed to promote awareness of cardiac arrest and encourage community members to learn essential life-saving skills that can be used during medical emergencies.

Approximately 25 residents, including family members and children, enthusiastically participated in the session. The programme was conducted by Dr Barkha Agrawal, Executive Member, ISANCB (2026–27).

Learning Essential Life-Saving Skills

The session covered key steps in responding to a suspected cardiac arrest, including recognising the emergency, calling for help, and understanding the technique of high-quality chest compressions.

These topics were reinforced through live demonstrations and hands-on compression practice using mannequins. Participants, including young children, had the opportunity to practise chest compressions and become familiar with basic life-support techniques.

An interactive question-and-answer session encouraged participants to clarify their doubts and engage actively with the learning process.

Promoting Community Awareness and Bystander Life Support

The programme was well received by residents, who appreciated the initiative to bring life-saving awareness into their residential community.

By encouraging participation from families and children, ISA Nagpur City Branch highlighted that awareness of emergency response is valuable for people of all ages. Learning how to recognise cardiac arrest, call for help, and understand chest compression techniques can help communities become better prepared for emergencies.

The activity reflected ISA Nagpur’s continued commitment to spreading life-saving knowledge beyond hospitals and promoting bystander life-support awareness in the community.
